Uniting to Understand Racism strives to raise the level of awareness of participants concerning their unexamined racist attitudes and encourage proactive change. To reduce racism in our communities through study and personal examination, we offer a Six-Week Dialogue Program.

The Uniting to Understand Racism dialogue program is a six-week program - offered once a week, for up to 2 hours. Over the course of six weeks these sessions provide participants with enough time to listen and interact with one another about their experiences and opinions in relation to race and cultural issues. Through these interactive dialogue sessions participants will begin to evaluate their own thoughts and begin to discover their own personal biases toward others that would otherwise be untapped.
The program includes open guided dialogue, video presentations, selected readings and a review of newspaper clippings. By utilizing various media participants have multiple opportunities to critically think about issues of racism and how they affect them and the rest of society.
The program is led by trained volunteer facilitators. All facilitators are past course participants. They know the process well and use their experience to help participants of the program maximize their progress toward understanding racism through the dialogue process. Program materials are regularly revised to include current information and issues that are relevant to everyone in society regardless of their background. The six-week dialogue program will offer participants new found understanding of the problems of race which still exist in society. The awareness that participants will gain from this educational experience will be beneficial to all people and translate positively into their daily lives.
For those in the legal profession, the Uniting to Understand Racism program qualifies for 9.5 hours of general MCLE credit, including three hours of MCLE credit for "education activities pertaining to the role of lawyers concerning racial and ethnic issues..."
